In sheet metal forming low order shell formulations are not sufficient whenever warped cross sections and highly non-linear stress and strain distributions occur across the thickness. In the present study high order formulations are applied allowing for up to a cubic displacement field in thickness direction. These in turn may lead to previously unknown undesired stiffening effects, which are also discussed in the contribution. The time-step size estimation in explicit dynamic simulations using data driven methods material modelling is addressed. Finally, the results of simulations with higher order elements are presented.
