Increasing demand for higher energy capacity Lithium-ion batteries has made modeling of lithiation with alternative electrode materials, like Si, very important to gain insights. The (dis)charging process involves complicated phase transformations in the anode, which are efficiently captured using phase-field modeling. However, these phase transformations have been witnessed to be accompanied by large volumetric deformations (~300%) during (dis)charging cycles. Hence, the integrity of the material is compromised and battery cycle life and reliability are reduced. This work aims to develop a framework to demonstrate the relationship between plastic deformations and the rate of lithiation (charging time) and the current-voltage profile for a Si-anode.
